The Epping Society Congratulates Our Vice Chairman, Roger Lowry, on Being Named Townsperson of the Year

The Epping Society is pleased to share the news that our Vice Chairman, Roger Lowry, has been awarded Epping Town Council’s Townsperson of the Year. This honour recognises his longstanding commitment to the wellbeing of our town and its residents, and we are proud to see his contributions acknowledged so publicly.

Roger’s service to Epping extends across many areas of community life. He is a dedicated volunteer at the Epping Food Bank, offering practical support to local families with characteristic steadiness and kindness. He is also an active member of St John’s Church, assisting with events and participating in the church choir. Many will also remember his involvement with the former Epping Chorus, reflecting his enduring love of music and community engagement.

Within The Epping Society, Roger’s work has been invaluable. His careful scrutiny of planning matters, his willingness to raise concerns with councillors, and his persistence in ensuring that residents’ interests are represented have all strengthened our ability to protect the character of Epping. During the development of the Local Plan, Roger attended hearings, submitted detailed questions, and consistently advocated for thoughtful, responsible planning.

Most recently, he has been closely reviewing the proposed modifications to the Epping Neighbourhood Plan—an undertaking requiring both expertise and considerable patience.

As a Society, we extend our warmest congratulations to Roger. His dedication exemplifies the values we strive to uphold: service, integrity, and a deep commitment to the community. We are fortunate to have him as part of our leadership, and Epping is undoubtedly better for his contributions.
