Step Into Epping’s Story: Join the Blue Plaques Guided Walk This September

Epping is a town rich with character, shaped by remarkable people, historic buildings and moments that deserve to be remembered. This September, you’re warmly invited to explore that heritage in a relaxed, engaging and family‑friendly way.

On Saturday 5th September 2026, the Epping Society will lead a special Blue Plaques Guided Walk as part of the Epping Town Partnership’s Mini Festival. Over the course of the afternoon, you’ll visit all 13 of Epping’s blue plaques, each one marking a person, event or building that helped define the town we know today.

One plaque commemorates Henry Doubleday (1808–1875) — the celebrated naturalist and lepidopterist who once lived in the original grocery shop on this very site. His story is just one of many you’ll uncover as you wander through Epping’s streets, guided by local experts who bring history to life with warmth and insight.
