Neighbourhood Plan – ballot on 18th

Last night (8th June) a packed audience attended a presentation in Epping Hall, by Epping Town Council about the Epping Town Council Neighbourhood Plan (NP). The speaker, Cllr Nigel Avey started by explaining the different roles of the two Councils.

He explained that the proposed NP has to fit inside Epping Forest District Council’s Local Plan, set in place in 2023. The NP cannot contradict the LP – and particular concern was expressed about developers hoping to push through planning applications for 5 areas of housing mostly to the South of town. The NP has been written partly with an intent to reflect community opposition to such large speculative developments; along with many other policies to protect and enhance the quality of life in our “small market town”; it can be used to supplement planning objections.

There was much discussion about widespread confusion between the two Councils and the two Plans; and also about the publicity leading up to the forthcoming ballot on the NHP (which has to be organised by the District Council, rather than the Town Council).
Nigel Avey finished by urging all to vote in favour of the NP next week, as a route to trying to protect our town; and where possible to spread this information by local social media groups. The Town Clerk will make available more leaflets if people ask, to put through neighbours’ doors; or a copy is below for spreading.

The Epping Society was mentioned positively several times; we too encourage a vote in favour of the NP.
